Activities
The Institute of Engineering provides the technical and structural foundation for architectural education at the faculty. It guides students toward understanding the engineering dimension of architectural design from the very beginning of their studies. It covers subjects such as statics, structural design, building physics, technical systems in buildings, and construction economics, with a strong emphasis on sustainability.
The institute’s research activities focus primarily on both traditional and new building materials and technologies. Natural materials play a significant role here, particularly unfired clay, including research and the implementation of community buildings. The institute organizes the international conference “Healthy Homes” and collaborates with a wide range of technical faculties and research institutions both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
Its research also includes projects focused on innovative technical solutions for timber buildings, building acoustics, and indoor environmental quality. The institute operates specialized classrooms and workshops, works on opening up its technical facilities to the broader academic community, and plans to establish a laboratory for technical measurements. It also actively cooperates with the professional public through expert and forensic activities.
The Institute of Engineering thus plays a key role in connecting architectural creativity with engineering principles and contributes to the development of environmentally responsible building practices.
