Two FA BUT Studios at the Landscape Festival: Student Visions and Interventions for Hradec Králové
At the Faculty of Architecture, Brno University of
Technology (FA BUT), two studios are presenting their work at Landscape
Festival 2026 in Hradec Králové — Palacký–Dokoupilová and Krejčová–Doležel —
offering two distinct yet complementary perspectives on the city, public space,
and its future form.
The Palacký–Dokoupilová Studio is presenting projects from
Urban Living Lab Hradec Králové, focused on the revitalisation of the area
between Karla IV Avenue and Smetana Embankment, including Škroupova Street,
Průmyslová Street, and 5 May Square.
The diploma projects bring forward urban design solutions
and proposals for mixed-use buildings as well as public spaces in the
north-eastern part of the site, while the bachelor’s projects focus on the
design of a corner mixed-use building at the intersection of Průmyslová and
Škroupova streets. What unites these proposals is an effort to create a
high-quality urban environment with an emphasis on blue-green infrastructure
and adaptation to climate change.
The Krejčová–Doležel Studio is participating in the festival
with the exhibition Hradec Visions and the temporary intervention Around
Hradec. Hradec Visions presents works dedicated to Edvard Beneš Avenue —
ranging from proposals for smaller structures and an urban study to the
realisation of a small-scale intervention.
Through a temporary intervention, the project Around Hradec
activates an unused fountain on Edvard Beneš Avenue. The installation was
created in the spirit of circular architecture, using recycled and upcycled
materials such as boards made from recycled plastic, pressed Tetrapak panels,
and discarded furniture.
From Strategic Planning to Experimental Intervention
Together, the two studios demonstrate the breadth of
approaches that can be taken in thinking about urban transformation — from a
long-term urban vision to an experimental intervention in public space.
“The opening of the exhibition of student works in the
former central slaughterhouse building on Kydlinovská Street was truly
successful. Over the coming months, the public will have the opportunity to
visit this remarkable industrial building together with the exhibition,
including a guided tour. The slaughterhouse, one of Hradec Králové’s valuable
industrial heritage sites, has overcome its most difficult period, and we are
currently seeking a new use for it,” commented Adam Záruba, Deputy Mayor of
Hradec Králové, on the occasion of the exhibition opening.
The joint presentation also includes works by students from
the Achten–Pavlíček–Sýsová Studio at the Faculty of Architecture, CTU in
Prague, focused on the revitalisation of the city slaughterhouse. The
exhibition thus creates a broader platform for bringing together different
academic approaches to architecture, urbanism, and work with the urban
landscape. It is open to the public for the duration of the Landscape Festival,
which will also include a guided tour.
