Complicated Relationship

The exhibition presents 13 architectural studies by students of the Faculty of Architecture, Brno University of Technology, which are dedicated to the revitalization of the former Podhoran Hotel in Bystřice pod Hostýnem. The works dealt with the reconstruction of the building, which is a typical example of the building culture of the 1970s and 1980s.

Although the building itself is not poor-quality architecture, its scale and morphology go beyond the conventions of the historic city center. The building has a complicated history, which contributes to its contradictory perception by the public. However, this represents a material resource with the potential for future adaptation.

The aim of the student proposals was to examine the possibilities of adapting the existing structure and evaluating the level of necessary interventions. In some cases, the possibility of its replacement is also considered. The exhibition thus shows different approaches to working with the heritage of late modernist architecture in the specific context of a smaller city.

The project was created in cooperation with the city hall of Bystřice pod Hostýnem and will serve as an ideological inspiration for the future reconstruction of the Podhoran hotel building. The project thus brings concrete benefits not only to students, but also to the city itself and its residents.

Venue: Podhoran hotel building, Bystřice pod Hostýnem
Exhibition period: 27. 6. 2025 – 31. 8. 2025
Open daily – free admission
Opening and presentation of projects: Thursday 26. 6. 2025 at 5:00 p.m. in the Podhoran hotel building

You are cordially invited.
