Urban strategies from a multi-species perspective
Researchers Kateřina Singer (FA BUT) and Tamara Spalajković (FaVU BUT) will present their interfaculty project “Planýrka: a case study of post-cultural landscape” and the methods they use within the framework of interdisciplinary cooperation. The workshop will take participants to the Brno locality of Planýrka and focus on the impacts of urban interventions on the landscape, its population and how legislative processes fundamentally shape the environment. Together, we will consider how the results of artistic and scientific research can be used within advocacy processes and how they can influence public discussion.
In the practical part of the workshop, participants will jointly try the activity “Parliament of Beings”, inspired by the theory of the Parliament of Things by the French philosopher Bruno Latour. This method aims to open up space for imaginative and critical reflection on urban planning about the needs of various types of actors, both human and non-human, and to examine forms of representation in decision-making processes that directly affect them.
BIO
Kateřina Singer is a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture, University of Technology, where she is currently a doctoral student. Together with her colleagues, she runs studios that serve as a research laboratory. Since her diploma thesis, she has been dedicated to the issue of urban wilderness, its understanding and integration into the urban structure of the city. As part of her doctoral studies, she names and defends the so-called postcultural landscape as a legitimate typology of public space. Together with Tamara Spalajković and Marek Hlavička, they founded the research platform 360+ lab, which aims to connect the research level with the pedagogical, applied and popular-scientific levels. Among other things, Kateřina is currently a full-time mother, works in the interior design studio POSTROP and has been involved in legislative processes as a clerk at the building office.
Tamara Spalajković is an artist and researcher. As part of her doctoral studies at the FaVU BUT, she is dedicated to creating docu-fiction videos based on artistic research, focusing on the influence of urbanisation on interspecies coexistence. She occasionally organises music events and workshops, and has been working as an assistant in the Audiovisual Technology Department at FaVU since September 2026.
