Art and Cities Workshop

The Blended Intensive Programme Art and Cities took place in the form of online preparation and a full-time workshop in Brno. The online part took place on 10 and 13 March and included lectures by the School of Art and Design in Dublin on an introduction to video mapping and international inspiration.

The face-to-face workshop, which students in five teams attended as part of the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), took place on 17–21 March at the FA BUT. The students were introduced to tools such as MadMapper and Resolume, visited mapping demonstrations in Brno (e.g. the Water tanks or the rafters of St. James Church) and formed international teams. They collected photographs and drawings of Brno's architecture, based on which they created their projections. These were publicly presented at the faculty building in the final round.

Thirty-three students and six teachers participated. The result was 33 original mapping installations (each 30 seconds long) with a musical background, reflecting the themes of modern architecture, space and narration. Students learned technical skills, teamwork and visual communication.

Cooperation between the partners was smooth. Riga Technical University brought artists and projection experts, Technological University Dublin contributed experience in the field of design and storytelling, and FA BUT provided architectural background and mapping experts. The organisation was done online, and all institutions contributed to a high-quality output. After the workshop, further online presentations and a final evaluation were held on 1 April and 31 April, led by teachers from RTU.

The workshop brought together technical, artistic and architectural approaches. The results were documented and shared through the partner schools' websites and social networks.
The impact of the workshop was immediate: students gained new skills applicable to the presentation of architectural designs, experience of international collaboration and motivation for future projects. We plan to follow up on the collaboration with workshops in Riga and Dublin. The event also raised awareness of the use of video mapping in public space and architecture.
