A new housing culture like in the Netherlands. How young architects imagine the development of Zábrdovice
How the new generation from the Faculty of Architecture (FA BUT) under the guidance of Dutch
architects and in cooperation with The Office of the Architect of the City of Brno (KAM) present another
development of Zábrdovice? What vision do the students have for the culture of housing and densification
The exhibition of student proposals for the urban design of the site between the streets
Jana Svobody and the Svitava River can be seen from 7 June in Gallery! ENTER
As our cities expand and densify, we need to think about a new approach to using our living space. How do we collectively live "sustainably" and how to give new developments their own identity so that they do not create places "without a soul"? Is it possible to play with the scale of buildings so that we use the amenities and benefits of the city, but at the same time the togetherness of the village?
The FA BUT students reflected on these questions and the results of their work are presented in an exhibition that will open on Thursday 6 June at 16:30 in the Gallery! ENTER. It will take place with the participation of the management of the Faculty of Architecture, KAM experts, students and their teachers. The exhibition will then be open to the public until 15 September, every weekday from 9am to 5pm.
This experiment focuses on the area between Jana Street Svoboda and the Svitava River. The area now closed between the residential area and brownfield that was once a railway line. The students have developed a design team, a new urban concept for the city of Brno that seeks to answer how new generations would like to live in an attempt to find a balance between the public and the private," Radek Suchánek, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture.
The project involved 21 students under Dutch architects Gabriel Peni, Servie Boetzkes and Radek Brunecký from the FA BUT, together with the head of the KAM Public Space Department, David Zajíček and Pavla Pannova, head of the KAM Planning Department.
The cooperation between the faculty and KAM is also welcomed by the city architect Jan Tesárek: "The city will get a new creative perspective behind the development of the surrounding area Tišnovka. The location offers the potential for quality housing in an excellent transport accessible area of the wider city centre. In addition, in the near future there will be flood control measures on the adjacent section of the Svitava River."
