“EAT, SLEEP, MAKE, REPEAT”
Student Workshop 25/10/2019 – 27/10/2019
During this workshop we’re going to design and construct a wooden structure that will be tested on strength and stability (e.g. bridge, span, arch, gate). The workshop will start with a one-day design competition in which a proposal for the structure is made. From these proposals three to four structures will be built in world-scale. The structures will be constructed over the course of two days in groups of seven to ten students. We’ll conclude the workshop with a festive opening during which the structures are tested and presented.

Ivo Vrouwe studied Building Technology at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Architectural Design at Eindhoven University of Technology, and received his PhD from Leuven University, Faculty of Architecture. He currently works in Rotterdam as an architectural designer and engineer, and is a teacher and researcher at Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam, and the KU Leuven, Faculty of Architecture in Ghent.
In his research he designs teaching and learning situations that support knowledge transfer and acquisition in architecture, design and the arts. In the situations proposed, the learning goals aim at making sense of ill-defined construction problems and the understanding of construction concepts. In his work as a designer engineer, he supports architects and designers in the process from concept to realization of non-conventional architectures.
